Western Force hands over two-year contract to young utility back Patrick Dellit - Rugby
Perth based Australian Super Rugby franchise, Western Force, has handed over a new two-year contract to their utility back Patrick Dellit, following his impressive performance in his debut season for the club.
Officials at the club have confirmed the signing of Dellit on a new contract in a statement released on their website on Wednesday, July 20.
Western Force head coach, Richard Graham, has identified and drafted Dellit into Force’s squad at the start of the 2011 Super Rugby season. Recalling the moment of selecting Dellit, Graham said, “What appealed to me in recruiting Patrick was that he had done a fair apprenticeship at club rugby and I believed that by giving him an opportunity in a professional programme he could improve.”
Graham has praised Dellit’s physical attributes and game skills. He added that in his first-year career he has continued to work hard throughout the season and his performance has earned him continuous selection in the Force’s first team.
The 24-year-old Dellit made his professional senior rugby union club debut for the Force, in their 2011 Super Rugby encounter against the Lions at Johannesburg. He has made 12 appearances in his debut season for the Force, which includes starting the game on nine occasions.
Dellit has expressed his delight on extending his stay at the club for two more years. He added that the club set up of supporting, respecting and acknowledging the hard work of player has helped him a lot in his development as a player.
Dellit further added, “There was a massive learning curve and definitely no short cuts taking that step into Super Rugby. Playing under Richard Graham you aren't under any illusions about what is required and that really helped me understand and appreciate what I needed to do to be part of the match day squad.”
The utility back Dellit has thanked the coaching staff and senior players for the role they have played in his development. He expressed his hope that he will continue to work hard and keep learning the game.
Graham has reiterated the Western Force commitment in identifying and grooming the young players into truly professional players. Earlier, at the end of the 2011 Super Rugby season, Force’s and Wallabies young star James O’Connor had parted ways with the club after spending five seasons with them.
