Western Force recruits another National Rugby League player, Will Tupou for their new season
The Super Rugby club, Western Force has recruited another kiwi player, Will Tupou on a two-year contract.
Tupou filled up for the outside back’s position within the North Queensland Cowboys and now with this move taken, the ex-Queenslander will be playing for the alternate code of rugby along with Willie Ripia and other latest inductions for the 2012 Super Rugby
campaign including Toby Lynn, Winston Stanley and Jordan Rapana.
However, this 21-year-old has been playing for the rugby union ever since he had stepped in the world of rugby and always desired to reach its top. He was part of the Australian School’s rugby team of 2007, before he joined the Brisbane Broncos club and
stayed with them for two years. Last year, Tupou had reigned in with the Queenslanders, to go for his National Rugby League (NRL) debut.
Tupou who always wished to prove his mettle in the rugby union code made a switch to league games and also played well there. While speaking about his experience with rugby league, the New Zealander stated, “I enjoyed my time in league and I'm happy that
I gave it a go but playing rugby at the highest level is what I always wanted to do. It's something that myself and my dad have talked about since I was a kid. The Force has given me a great opportunity and I want to make the most of that.”
Richard Graham who coaches the Force is convinced of Tupou’s speedily transition back into the alternate code of rugby as he is joining back the union code with Force.
While speaking about it, Graham added, “I have no doubt that Will could have enjoyed a long career in league and we've seen this year he has been a strong performer for the North Queensland side. His desire, however, to return to his rugby roots is a windfall
for us and I think he'll make a strong statement in Super Rugby.”
Graham also talked about Tupou’s brilliant performance with NRL and the way this Kiwi player made into the NRL’s first franchise. It was also told that if he had not been injured, he could have played many more NRL games. That would have stretched his present
records of making a total of 21 appearances at the NRL games that include nine from this season.
According to the Force’s coach, Tupou’s inclusion into the squad will add to the physical presence on-field which is in accordance with Force’s this year’s agenda as he wished to recruit a lot of on field physically developed players. That criteria of is
rightfully fulfilled by the Tupou’s enrolment in a professional program under Neil Henry in Townsville.
