Western Force win their second game in Super XV against Brumbies

This is the Western Force’s second win of the season that takes them to the 13th spot of the combined Super XV table.
Western Force were scoreless during the first 36 minutes of the game and came back strongly to take the game away from the Brumbies. For Brumbies their poor run in the Super XV continues as they made some errors at very crunch time in the game that conceded
them their third win in the season. Brumbies have won two of the eight games they have played and have an outside chance to make to the play offs provided that they as a unit raise their game deliver results on field.
Former Super Rugby champions, Brumbies started the match with intensity, determination and confidence. Brumbies were constantly on attack and Force did well to contain them. Brumbies attack Spear head was Matt Giteau who has scored all 19 points for Brumbies.
Brumbies were first to put score on board as their Fly – Half Matt Giteau scored on penalty. Giteau was playing with sore ribs, which forced Brumbies to change the positions of Giteau, Toomua and Lealiifano. Force came back strongly and put Brumbies defence
under considerable pressure.
Both teams were looking to gain the ground and keep the ball possession resulting in a scoreless period of approx. 20 minutes. In the 25th minute, Brumbies Matt Giteau scored on the pass of Centre Christian Lealiifano by
beating Force Winger David Smith to score the first try of the match. This followed by Giteau’s conversion.
Just before the end of the first half, Force’s Centre Rory Sidey intercepted the Brumbies pass and kicked it further ahead to James O’Connor who scored a try to put Force’s score on board. This was followed by Force’s Scrum Half Willie Ripia conversion
to reduce the lead to just three points. At the end of the first half the scorecard read 10 – 7.
For Brumbies, Matt Giteau again came scoring during 43rd, 55th and 67th minute penalty. These were the Brumbies only scoring opportunities in the second half. Force scored their first point of the second half as Winger David Smith
scored his first try of the match, followed by O’Connor’s conversion during the 44th and 45th minutes respectively.
O’ Connor scored two penalties during 62nd and 67th minutes to put the visitors into the lead. In the 77th minute, David Smith scored his second try followed by O’Connor’s conversion to take the score to 19 – 27 favouring
Force. The scorecard remained the same until the end of the second half.
If Western Force were able to score another try, they will also score a Try Bonus Point that would put them equal with the Brumbies at 11 points. Force will now host the Bulls next week.
