Western Force’s James Stannard eager to play against Queensland Reds - Super Rugby update
Western Force’s fullback, James Stannard, who was a regular player in the Australian Sevens, is eager to play against the Australian top spot derby Queensland Reds on June 11. The Western Force is currently placed third among the Australian derbies in the
ongoing Super Rugby championship. They have won only four matches and have thus eradicated their chances to qualify for the play-offs.
James Stannard has garnered world-wide fame and is regarded as one of the best Rugby Seven players. He is also known as a point-scoring machine in the shortest form of rugby. He has the honour of scoring the most points in a single year for Australia. He
scored 269 points during the 2010 IRB Sevens World Series despite missing two games due to injury problems.
He made his Super Rugby debut in 2007 for the Western Force and then shifted towards Brumbies in 2009. He was again hired by the Western Force early this year and has been given the role of fullback. Talking to reporters in a press conference, the defender
revealed his eagerness to play against the Reds. Stannard said that he would love to deliver his best performance against the Australian top ladders. He further said that he will target Quade Cooper, who is having a real good time in the current season. He
added, "We owe them one. I'd love to play (Cooper) and have a crack at him - you never know what he's going to do. He's the benchmark in Australia and you want to play against the best."
Talking about this return to the Western Force, the 28-year-old Stannard claimed that his performance in the Sevens was really appealing and attracted the attention of Richard Graham. He added, "I liked the sevens and I was thinking geez I could do this
for the time being and if anything comes up it comes up - I was more focused on the sevens."
He was hopeful of making his place in the playing 15 for Force against the Reds on June 11.
