Western Kentucky wins against Tennessee State Lady Tigers - Volleyball
The Lady Tigers of Tennessee State University fell to Western Kentucky in three sets on Tuesday, September 13. The home team, the Hilltoppers, exhibited a stellar performance and stole the show by sending 3-0 (25-20, 29-27, and 25-20) on the board. The E.A.

The Hilltoppers continued with success in the 2011 Season and improved to an overall record of 10-1. So far, they have dropped just one match in the first week of September. On the other hand, Tennessee State received their third defeat in the running season
and moved to 4-3.
Senior outside hitter (OH), Shaquita Williams of Western Kentucky, gave out a superb performance. She clipped 13 kills thanks to 26 attack-attempts with an amazing hitting percentage of .500. Erika Moss was the prominent figure on Lady Tigers’ side as she
pitched out 30 assists. Likewise, the libero from Tennessee State, Britani Hathorn, led the team with 12 digs.
The opening set of the match was point-to-point battle. The ball kept moving over the net with speed and both sides staged a solid game. The first tie of the match was seen at 12-all, which was converted into 16-16 after a couple of minutes. The Lady Tigers
broke the tie but Hilltoppers followed them up with consecutive points. The home advantage also benefitted the Toppers squad and enabled them to make further progress. They outscored the Tigers and jumped to 22-19 before the timeout. As the play resumed, Hilltoppers
were back in action and cruised past to 25-20 win in the first set.
Game entered the second set, while both sides came up with better action. It was still a see-saw battle as score soared up with close gap. Tennessee State gave the opponents all they could handle and in response Lady Tigers did precisely the same. They led
the score at 16-12 and made the next move to 18-16. The WKU was good at counter attacks, which allowed them to catch up with the Tigers at 20-20. As the game progressed, the score once again tied at 27-all and created interesting scenario in the match. Finally,
hosts WKU hit the mark and registered final points on a kill and serve error by Tigers. Third set was closed at 29-27.
With two sets in hand, WKU made a strong opening in the third set and pushed TSU behind. The Tigers lagged at 14-8 but narrowed the gap with successful attacks by Rebecca Moudree. TSU came a long way to match its performance with WKU but eventually lost
the contest after dropping third consecutive set with a margin of five points 25-20.
The Tennessee State Tigers will return to action again over the weekend. They are scheduled to take on teams from Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Likewise, the Hilltoppers will go up against Missouri, American Eagles,
and Villanova. The first match will be played on Friday while the next two matches will be held on Saturday.
