Western Province v Eastern Province – CSA Provincial One-Day Competition, 2012/13 – Match Update
Half-tons from Kyle Schreuder and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sybrand-Abraham-Engelbrecht-c92138 set up a comprehensive 49-run win for Western Province over Eastern Province in the ongoing CSA Provincial One-Day Competition, during their match at the Northerns-Goodwood Cricket Club Oval in Cape Town
on November 4.
Western Province won the toss and chose to bat first – a decision which they then went on to justify, despite the efforts of Eastern Province’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lionel-Isaac-Vaaltyn-c72976 (8-0-48-2).
The top-order, comprising http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bradley-Barnes-c1188 (14), was polished off by Magala early in the innings, leaving the Western Province at 29 for 3. However, Kyle Schreuder (84) and Sybrand
Engelbrecht (97*) rescued the innings in a big way, setting up a 173-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
By the time Schreuder was dismissed by Vaaltyn in the 44th over, Western Province had reached 202 for 4. George Linde was caught and bowled on duck by Vaaltyn in the very same over which resulted in Schreuder’s dismissal, but Engelbrecht remained
firm at the crease and saw the innings through until the end. He was aided in his efforts by Brendan Young (25) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-Lyle-Campbell-c52120 (6*), and by the end of 50 overs, Western Province posted a sizeable total of 258 at the expense of 6 wickets.
With http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Siyambulela-Mashicile-c90530 Simetu (10-0-36-2), and Engelbrecht (10-1-37-2) on the prowl, Eastern Province did not manage to get too far in the chase, and were eventually all out at 209 by the 47th over.
A 56-run opening stand between skipper David White (28) and Michael Price (25), followed by a 61-run stand for the third wicket between James Price (35) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arno-Jacobs-c45463 (26), appeared to have put Eastern Province on steady ground. However, most of the top
order batsmen were dismissed before they could turn their starts into substantial scores.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lee-Roy-Walters-c72409 (16) being the only one who managed to reach double figures.
The Eastern Province batsmen were unable to muster up an effective reply to the opposition’s bowling attack, and the team was eventually cut off, all out, at 209, with Western Province going on to claim an emphatic 49-run win.
