Western Province secured a 10-wicket win against KwaZulu-Natal Inland over the weekend in the three-day match that was played at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-John-Walter-Allott-c81119 Wilson Oval, Newlands, Cape Town.
Requiring a target of 28 runs to win, Western Province reached the target in 8.4 over without losing a wicket with openers MC Kleinveldt and MG Pote hammering 12 and 16 runs.
Earlier the day began with KwaZulu-Natal Inland resuming their second innings from 10 for one.
Having had posted 239 in their first innings and then getting hammered for 373 by their opponents, KwaZulu-Natal Inland needed to post a big total to save the game.
However, with 31 runs on the scoreboard, the batting side saw the demise of their first wicket of the day when Bhayla was clean-bowled by Hendricks for six.
N Hendrie and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/B-Moses-c47041 then forged a resounding partnership with both batsmen hammering the bowlers and keeping the scoreboard ticking.
This partnership completely outplayed the fielding side with the bowlers struggling to contain the batsmen.
Finally after getting smashed for 110, Western Province made a comeback when Kleinveldt trapped N Hendrie in front of stumps on 61.
The departure of their top batsman brought a considerable decline in the scoring rate, leaving KwaZulu-Natal Inland in a spot of bother.
Meanwhile, Western Province made a staggering comeback with BE Hendricks grabbing six wickets in 18 overs. The bowler left the batting side in ruins and created a serious chance for his side to win the match.
Devastated by a late batting collapse, KwaZulu-Natal Inland could muster only 161 runs which were certainly not enough to save the game.
Western Province skipper, MC Kleinveldt, was an asset in this game for having smashed 83 in his first innings followed by a two-wicket haul in 13 overs.
KwaZulu-Natal on the other hand, looked rusty in both innings which cost them the match. Fans, however, enjoyed good cricket by Western Province who outplayed their opposition.
