Westfield is trying to reduce his own guilt – Danish Kaneria
The discarded Pakistani leg spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314 has come hard on his former Essex teammate calling him a “convicted fraudster” and “admitted liar”, who is trying to reduce his guilt by involving him (Kaneria) in the spot fixing scam.
During a media encounter on Saturday, the 31-year-old leg-break bowler claimed that he has already been cleared by the apex body, the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and is under no pressure following
the allegations set against him by the former Essex fast bowler and his prosecutors.
"...I am not feeling any pressure,” said Kaneria when approached for a comment. "Westfield is a convicted fraudster and admitted liar. In trying to reduce his own guilt, he has tarnished my name," he added.
Eager to play for Pakistan, Kaneria has found himself under the cloud of spot fixing once again, when the prosecutors of his Essex teammate, Mervyn Westfield alleged that the latter had been lured into the fix after an approach by Kaneria.
But the leg spinner, strongly condemns the allegations, said that he will take legal action against Westfield, adding that he will do everything possible to get his name cleared to play for the national team.
"I don't want to say much now on this issue. But it is a incorrect terminology that I have been implicated by the court. In fact, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 police cleared me in this case after proper investigations," said the 31-year-old Kaneria.
"I have told my lawyer in London to get the full judgment of the trial and pursue this matter. I will not rest until I am cleared to play for Pakistan again," he added further.
Meanwhile, former Essex fast bowler, Mervyn Westfield has been sentenced to jail for four months by a London court after he admitted receiving STG6,000 ($9,200) to concede 12 runs in an over of a Clydesdale Bank 40 match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 in September 2009,
although only 10 runs were conceded in the particular over.
Kaneria last played for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in August 2010, and since then the PCB integrity committee has not cleared his name for national selection, following his alleged involvement in spot fixing.
