Westmead Bolt claims Derby Plate title at Shelbourne
Westmead Bolt bagged connections with the €4,000 prize in the Ladbrokes Irish Derby Plate final when clocking 29.58sec at Shelbourne (550yard) on Saturday night.
A race in which the odd compilers were spot on to price him as a favourite and any punter to have backed him would have doubled up well with odds of 5-4.
The son of Droopys Scolari and Mega Delight was fast to break in the blue jacket and had trap six and trap three for company after the first bend, who both failed to keep up with the pace of Bolt although St Louis Spirit in the stripes came close at the last bend but settled as runner-up in a time of 29.68sec.
The result provided a great end to trainer Fraser Black’s night, who’s Krug Ninety Five finished third in the Irish Derby final, which saw trainer Conor Fahy triumph with a 1-2 finish and land Europe’s largest prize of €120,000.
