The Aston Villa midfielder has expressed optimism ahead of his side’s upcoming Premier League fixture against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, while admiring his teammate over his dazzling performances thus far.
Aston Villa midfielder, Ashley Westwood, has heaped praise on his teammate, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Benteke-c9056, over his scintillating performances thus far this term.
The 22-year-old striker arrived at Villa Park before the start of the ongoing 2012/13 campaign, and has already proven his worth for the Villans with his presence in the final third and his incisiveness in front of goal.
In spite of netting only six goals in 16 games in all competition, the former Genk hit-man has played an important role in helping his side secure good results.
And Westwood, who himself joined Villa earlier this year in the summer transfer window from Crewe Alexandra, has admitted that Benteke has played a crucial part in his side’s good results thus far.
“He is a handful. He has come in and defenders are frightened of him. I thought even the Stoke players were frightened of him and they are big lads. So it shows what he brings to the team”, the midfielder was quoted as saying to the media.
The 22-year-old went on to express his admiration for Liverpool’s midfield maestro, Steve Gerrard, and has insisted that the 32-year-old is one of the greatest English players.
“Steven Gerrard is a massive figure in football. If I play half as many Premier League games as him I’ll be happy. If you look at the career he has had I think he’s a great player and the whole world knows that”, Westwood added.
Gerrard, who started his professional career at Anfield in the 1998/99 season, has thus far represented the Reds in well over 500 games in all competitions, netting 151 goals along the way.
Aston Villa will lock horns against Liverpool in their upcoming league encounter, and the former Crewe Alexandra midfielder has made it clear that his side will not be fazed heading into the game.
“But we go there with no fear. I’ve played against Manchester United, Manchester City and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 so I am not fazed by that anymore”, Westwood concluded.
The Villans will play against the Reds at Anfield on Saturday, December 15.
