  1. Don't mix it as the moisture from the wet food will quickly make the dry food rancid.  Wet food is far better for cats than dry.  Also important is what type of dry food you're feeding your cat.  Hopefully it's not cheap grocery store dry food.  Those foods are made mostly of corn and very low in protein.  Also be sure to feed for kitten wet and dry foods made for KITTENS - not cats.  Kittens need much more protein and fat than cats do and your kitten will be malnourished and not develop properly if fed cat food.

"Wet food is sugary"?  WTF?  Please provide a link to back up this "fact".  Some people really shouldn't give out advice!

Dry food does NOT clean cat's teeth http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?ac...

  2. yeah its okay to mix wet and dry food together. I feed my cats that sometimes.

  3. They like it because there is more sugar in it.  If she has teeth (and she should if you have her) then she should have dry food.  Wet food will soften her teeth and gums and give her dental problems later in life.  Once in a while is fine.  I give my cats and puppy a tin of tuna between them about once every 2-3 weeks.  Commercial wet food isn't very healthy for them.  Tuna or some other kind of fish that has no salt or sugar added is way better.

  4. It would be better if no dry was fed

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health

Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.

Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingrdiant a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things?

Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms

The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with grains and carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process.  Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in

Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.

You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all.    The best food for cats does not contain any grains at all.

Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies  whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. I would rather feed a middle grade canned food then the top of the line dry food.

Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck? http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/bp...

    Please read about cat nutrition.

Vetinarian diets  The reason your vet thinks so highly of the pet food they sell probably has more to do with money than nutrition. In vet school, the only classes offered on nutrition usually last a few weeks, and are taught by representatives from the pet food companies. Vet students may also receive free food for their own dogs and cats at home. They could get an Iams notebook, a Purina purse and some free pizza.  http://iml.jou.ufl.edu/projects/Spring04...

  5. Im sure your cat loves it just like humans love fast food wet food for cats is like fast food for humans i dont recomend you feed your cat lots of wet food and i hope the dry food you are feeding her is really healthy the better food you give your cat the longer it will live.

  6. My cat gets hairballs and throws up if she eats only wet food.

But then, wet food is good if they have a urinary issue or they're dehydrated because it has a lot more moisture.

All things in moderation--mainly dry food to keep a good amount of fiber in kitty's diet and keep her teeth clean (brush those little chompers, too), but a little wet food as a treat or if she's sick and you want to tempt her to eat.

  7. by all means cause dry food is all carbohydrates. Also it can cause constipation if eaten alone.I always mix a talbespoon of wet to a little less than a 1/4 cup of dry. a snack at night and you are done.

  8. She can eat both but it's better not to mix them.  That's because when dry food gets wet, it can quickly activate bacteria and then you have a germy soup.

But if she eats it all up right away then it's not so bad.

  9. It's perfectly allright. Can't hurt them at all.

    :]

  10. yes feeding both canned and dry food is fine.

  11. It is fine. Just make sure it is balanced. She should be on kitten food though if possible. Dry and wet. It has more of the protiens and nutrients that she needs to grow. Good luck with the kitty. :)

  12. yep perfectly ok

  13. wet food is not good for cats.

  14. I would give her a bit of wet food once a day and leave dry out for the rest. Wet food is sugary and can cause health problems if too much is eaten. But I would ask your vet to be sure.

  15. dry food is garbage, junk food.  do your own search on feline nutrition and make your own decision.  Dry food wont kill your cat overnight, but kitty will be less healthy and more prone to a variety of diseases

  16. I wish yahoo! answers required answerers to take a test to make sure they are knowledgeable in the subject before they are permitted to answer (such as practical-pet-care.com does).

Wet food should be the staple of the diet. It provides the meat protein and moisture that cats require. Dry food is dehydrated and usually is too high in carbs for cats because of the grain content. There are exceptions, such as Wellness CORE, Innova Evo, B.G. (Before Grain by Merrick) and others, but still, dry food can create a condition of chronic dehydration, unless your cat drinks large quantities or water. Cats in the wild consume prey, from which they receive most of their moisture. Dry food can lead to urinary tract illness, and ultimately kidney failure, as well as diabetes and obesity (from the high carbs).

How old is the kitten? You could feed her wet food 3 times per day, and offer some good quality dry food for between meal snacking. Meat such as chicken should be the first ingredient listed on the label - not "poultry by-products" or "ground yellow corn" which are commonly found in "junk food". Poor quality dry food is the "addictive junk food" that you should avoid. Don't mix the wet and dry food together. It could end up as a dried-up inedible lump.

I currently have 5 cats and have 13 years experience working in cat shelters.

Please read the links below for more information on feline nutrition. They are written by vets who are experts in the field of feline nutrition. All recommend wet food and explain the reasons why dry food should be avoided or limited.
