Wet foot, dry foot....Is this policy geared to treat Haitians unfairly.?

This policy is in effect here in Florida where I live. Basically, they way it works is that politicla refugees (Cuban) that come to Florida illegally are granted asylum provided they make it to dry land. If they are caught in open water by the US coast guard they are then returned to their country of origin.

Almost weekly here there are reopns of Cuban immigrants coming to shore in the Key biscayne area of Florida and granted asylum, while it seems the Haitians almost never make it to sure before they are surrounded by coast guard. Fool me once, fool me twice, but the third time.....

It was reported in the recent past that during one week at least 3 or more boat loads of Cubans made it to shore undected by the coast guard. How is this possible???? Okay, maybe on the first day, the second day unlikely, but h**l, thats a freebie. The third day????Thats a payoff...

haitians are under the same political turmoil as the cubans why then are they not granted asylum? Raciam? Bias?

Any ideas?

  1. Like di person be4 me. I tired of the racist **** too. Is jus no point to judge someone by dem skin colour, it dont make any sense if yu askin me.

  2. Well to me...it could be racism or an even BIGGER set-up.  I believe that either the coast guard just ignores the boats filled with Cubans or our government has a "deal" with the Cuban government, allowing them to have their nationals make it to American land, for the trade of drug trafficking. All I know is that if the shores off Florida were really that wide open...this country would've been under attack by terrorist along time ago.

Come on, you think they really dont see those boats.  If that was the case and that shoreline was so unpatroled why wouldn't Al Queda come over here on boat too?  No our government ALLOWS this wetfoot dry foot thing.  I wrote a whole disertation on it.  My mother and her fam are Haitian and many Haitians make it too land...only to get turned back.  SO where's the wet foot dry foot for them?

  3. I think it has to have something to do with the U.S. governments hatred of the Cuban communist government and Castro. Letting them reach shore is a away to "stick it " to Castro. You did bring up a really good point that Cubans reach the shores of the U.S. quite frequently while Haitians seem to always get caught. The United States always has some underground agenda.............

  4. There is is some racism involved, because of the political history of the two countries. Not just within the last 50 years either.

Remember that haiti was ONE OF if not THE FIRST country to gain independence from colonial rule. They were freed slaves pretty early in the world. The fact is that haiti, as a country of free minded black people, was SHUNNED by the white societies that ruled the caribbean and the americas.

Haiti was literally STARVED of economic development almost as a racist punishment for its rebellion.

Cuba, on the other hand, remained a HUGE puppet of the dominant western governments, up until thier fairly recent rebellion.

So basically Cuba is the troublesome young child of the americas trapped in a teenaged rebellion and Haiti is the b*****d child borne of raped slave. Today Haitians are shunned and Cubans are 'welcomed home'.

  5. hmm could be both sounds like the coast guard wasn't paying attention are we talking about black or Hispanic Cubans? as a Cuban living in the U.K I'm not familiar with the Haitian race could you explain a little Gracia's
