Wetsuit thickness for Northern California...?

Question

So i will be moving up to Eureka/Arcata, California in two weeks and I have been wanting to purchase a wetsuit since according to my friends the water is really cold to surf up there....

So I was wondering if any one knew what type of wetsuit would be good...(in terms of thickness)

Ex. 4/2mm... 3/2mm

And what brand is well the "best"?

Ex. Rip Curl Billabong O'Neil etc..

4/2 inch.  get bodyglove.  instead of bodyglove you could get xcel.

I had a 4/3 Bodyglove when I lived in Washington State. I never got cold, well relatively speaking. I bought a hood as well, but that suit kept me pretty warm and the water is 52-58 pretty much year round there.

If you want to be able to surf whenever you want and not be cold buy a 5/4 or a 5/4/3. You will also want some booties since most breaks up there are very rocky.

The link has some good infromation on "recommended" thicknesses. I don't wear any wet suit when the water hits 60, so they may be just a little too cautious in their suggestions.http://360guide.info/wetsuits/water-temp...

All of the name brands are good, but they are all sized just a little differently, so be sure to go to a surf shop to buy one (where you can try it on), and not on line. Like bathing suits, wetsuits are 'no return' items. Also, the folks in the local shops will know lots more about local water temps than those of us out here in cyberspace.  The link gives you very accurate water temp info. Believe me, in 42 years of surfing, I get my Best Answers at local surf shops.
