  1. 1 Go (opening by controlling the corners or edge of the board)

2 Xianqi (open by moving the cannons and chariots to a less venerable position and more threatening)

3 European Chess (usually start by opening with knights)

4 The Art of War by Zilch games ( http://www.zilchgames.net ) (move the monarch to a less venerable spot and build up civilian units, and position units defensively to protect the monarch)

5 Risk (spread out to gain more territory avoiding conflict... at least till I have more sizable force.)

  2. Chess

    King's Gambit

    1. e4 e5 2. f4

  3. Chess! :)

  4. STRATEGO!  It's basically got "strategy" in the name!

  5. mancala!!

  6. CHESS, i move the pawn out of the way so my bishop can get out.

  7. My favorite strategy game is Mancala.  It is an ancient game, deceptively simple yet amazingly complex.  A game can be played quickly, in just a few minutes really.  Anyone can learn to play very quickly, even children as young as five or six, but it also captivates adults.

The best first move in mancala depends on whether you are playing with 3 stones or 4 stones per pot.   I usually play with 4 stones and I would move the fourth pot from my Mancala first, so that I drop the last stone in my own Mancala, and then I go again.  Then I would move the stones from the pot closest to my Mancala, thereby opening the possibility of capturing one of my opponents pots in my next move.

If you haven't played Mancala it is well worth a try.  If you don't have a game, you can quickly make one from an empty egg carton and 48 pebbles.  Have fun!

  8. Axis and Allies Revised is my favorite strategy game.  It's difficult to say what my first move would be because it depends on what country I'm playing and who my adversary is.  If I was playing Japan I would invade China, sink the American fleet at Hawaii, and shore up my defenses in Manchuria in order to build a factory.

  9. so many. Hive, Yinsh, Zertz, Shogun, Caylus, Dungeon Twister, Checkers, Othello.... I'd say almost all games can be considered strategy games, except for those like Monopoly, Life and Chutes and Ladders (basically all main stream games have no strategy what-so-ever).

as for moves, depends on which game and who my opponent is!

  10. Any Avalon Hill battle game.

  11. tic tac toe

  12. risk

  13. definatey risk then monopoly

  14. Stratego is by far my favorite strategy game though it does have a large element of chance in it alsol.
