Theres a couple of reasons.

1. Something called "leet speak". Replacing letters with numbers and other characters basically makes it more difficult to read, therefore making it a type of code.

2. Just to try and be unique.

3. To spell things out they way they sound

4. To intentionally annoy others. (Yes it happens)
