  1. i want to know that also

  2. just to encourage participation

  3. To encourage participation and reward great answers, Yahoo! Answers has a system of points and levels. The number of points you get depends on the specific action you take. While you can't use points to buy or redeem anything, they do allow everyone to recognize how active and helpful you've been. (And they give you another excuse to brag to your friends.)

You gain points for answering questions, and you loose points for asking questions.

You get 2 points for each answer you give, and a bonus of 10 points if your answer is chosen as 'Best Answer'!  It costs 5 points to ask a question, but you can earn back 3 points if you choose a best answer for your question, so it is a net loss of only 2 points.

You can also get points by voting on undecided questions.  Click on 'Answer' above, and then click on the 'Voting' tab.  This will show you the unresolved questions.  You can vote for a best answer in these questions - you get one point per vote!

You also get a bonus point for every thumbs up you recieve on your best answers (up to 50 per best answer).  When you get to level 2 you can give thumbs up too!

You can see the Scoring System information page here:

    http://answers.yahoo.com/info/scoring_sy...

Or by clicking on your number of points at any time.

The points also let us compete a little bit!

You can see the Global leaderboard here:

    And the US leaderboard here:

  4. I think it has to deal with answers given questions asked and the ammount of correct answers and "Best Answer"s that are voted on I'm not completely sure (new to Yahoo! Answers)

That's my best bet though :P
