  1. Plucking (pulling out feathers) is almost always due to behavioral problems like boredom whereas grooming is to clean. A healthy bird will spend hours each day self-grooming.

  2. Birds need groomed by us or by themselves.Some things they cant do!like trim nails and wings.

    Plucking==

    Plucking  most often means the bird/birds are lacking vitamins.(deficiency) listlessness,boredom, or over crowding.

    The rest can be alleviated by new toys,your company, or maybe another buddy or taking some out. But then again some birds are just plucker's.Also could be from damage or making room for new feathers to come in.

    Grooming==

    there are some controversy about clipping wings! But in my opinion, I'd rather be Safe than Sorry. Birds can fly any where at any time if there wings are not clipped to keep under control some.They have been know en to Fly away and alot never seem to return.Other factors is scary birds can get into dangerous places. Or getting killed or hurt !! If it does get loose wont be able to fly to far for very long.

    Clipping wings is a good idea( but each to there own).I've done this to my birds and chickens its not hard to do but you have to know What you are Doing I do for safety reasons only.

    If you don't know HOW DON'T DO you can cause some real damage or even death If you wish to do this take to your vet or pet store they will be able to do with no harm to your bird/birds.Its not hard to do nails as well but like above if don't know how don't .You can place sand paper in bottom of cage or sandpaper covers on the preaches and bird/birds will also use this to trim nails and beaks.

  3. The difference is plucking is when the birds are actually actively pulling out otherwise healthy feathers. It can happen for a variety of reasons.

    Grooming is simply running their beaks over the feathers, getting any dirt, etc off them. If the occasional old feather falls off, that's fine. There should not be any bald spots or obvious distress when the bird is normally grooming though.
