can someone please tell me things linked between whaling and these 2 things...

whales becoming extinct

social and family bonds within a whale pod

please dont make it in depth, but not short either. thanks a heap!!!

  1. Whales become extinct through excessive whaling, since some species were more valuable due to higher oil content.  So they would be singled out and slaughtered until there were none left.

    The effects of whaling in a family pod is that older, larger whales were killed because there was more profit in doing so, but this also got rid of the oldest animals that were sexually mature and dominate, allowing younger, less dominant, and less learned animals to breed and dominate the species.  This also could mean that youngsters didn't learn things they needed to from their elders and social bonds broke down.

    The same happened in Africa during the massive elephant culls, young animals had no guidance and went amok.  Eventually it was helped by relocating adults from other areas into the younger animals ranges.
