This might sound stupid lol

i got this electric guitar about.......4 years ago? and back then my brother played too, and after about a year i stopped, but he kept playing and i let them use mine.......i started acoustic back and pulled my electric out to play, and the whammy bar is gone. my brother is the kind of person that likes to take stuff apart lol.....so he might have done it and tried to put it in another? or something like that.......but my question is.......can i go to a store, buy a whammy bar and just stick it in the hole? or do i have to have one installed? if i have to get one installed, how much do u think it is?

  1. why don't you ask your brother.. he might still have the whammy bar and it'll save you from buying a new one. Plus since he likes taking things apart he could quite possibly be able to answer your question

    Good luck

  2. You do not have to get one installed, usually you can just unscrew it. And if you can't find a shop that will sell you one, check online...ebay, amazon, etc :)

Edit: to answer your question about price - fairly cheap, no more than 10 or 15 bucks I'd say...

    http://www.google.com/products?q=whammy+...

2nd Edit: They're also called "tremolo arms"

3rd Edit: They're not 1 size fits all, make sure you get the right size before you buy!!

  3. Your Whammy bar by the proper name is a Tremolo arm.

Most manufacturers use the same diameter shaft size. Depending on your preference of Gold,Black or Silver the price is around $13.00-$20.00. Try WWW.stewmac.com or write me pierresguitars@yahoo.com and I'll hook you up, but I need more info on your axe.
