Whar did they use to wipe themselves back in the times of the Bible?

As to the Israelites I cannot be certain, I do know amoung the other peoples of that region the left hand was used.  That is the reason the left hand could never be used for eating.  One of the punishments for various crimes, especially theft was to chop off the right hand.  This made the person a pariah.  No one would allow him to eat with them for he had only his unclean hand to use.  Nice folks, huh?
