Whas Hossa worth 9 million?

I know they only have a 1 year contract because he is just there to get them another cup but still they could get 2 decent players instead of him and that would help even more.

He is good but no not worth that much. Especially for Detroit. They shouldnt have to pay that much when they could get somebody else who is really good for less. Bad mistake!!

Like others have said, hes not making $9 million.  

Also, they really had to spend the big money on one player instead of 2.  Detroit already has too many players.  Right now, this is just a general idea of what the lines could look like.

Hossa - Datsyuk - Holmstrom

Filppula - Zetterberg - Franzen

Cleary - Draper - Maltby

McCarty - Hudler - Samuelsson

That leaves Leino, Kopecky, Helm, and a bunch of rookies who need to start getting NHL ice timet but dont have a roster spot.  McCarty isnt necessarily coming back, but they want to sign a tough guy and they might even bring both him and Downey back (or so they say).  Spots for defensemen are even more backed up so there was even less room to add a free agent there.

He improves the team, he's a great scoring winger.  It'll keep cap space free next season and for seasons ahead to make sure deals get done for Hank and Pavel.  Ken Holland knows what he's doing.

At 7.4MM, Hossa is the 16th highest paid player in the NHL, in terms of points/game over the last 3 years, Hossa ranks 14th...............he's fairly paid!

Anyway LITY said that when he looked at the NHLPA site and compared numbers (production with salaries) between top players that Hossa wasnt underpaid or overpaid. He said he was about as fair as you could get with todays Cap Numbers with  the numbers he puts up and what he brings to a team (also adding in his 2way play) I tend to trust Lity!
