  1. An orphan has no family and looks to be adopted into a family while living apart from any family structure.  A foster child usually lives with a family that provides structure and a home but is not part of that family-usually while waiting to be adopted.

  2. An orphan has no parents. They belong to the state and stay in an orphanage. A foster child also has no parents and belongs to the state, but in this case, they move from different people's (foster parents) houses.

  3. An orphan is a child whose parents are dead (in some societies, it also refers to a child whose father is dead but whose mother is alive). A foster child is simply a child who is in foster care. Most children in foster care are NOT orphans - their parents are alive but are deemed by the court to be unfit or temporarily unfit to take care of them (drug addiction, in jail, etc.).

  4. A foster child is a human being cared for and an orphan is another human being that has no family or a family that does not want that person .

Both , for the most part , mature without love in their lives . . .

  5. An orphan has no parents.

  6. foster children move from home to home (sometimes often sometimes they stay for a long period of time). orphans have no home, no family structure.

  7. An orphan implies a child who has been abandoned by their parent(s) either on purpose or through a tragedy, accident, etc.. This is a term used in earlier centuries and up until the late 60's to describe a child who lived in a group home.

A foster child is a child who was either taken away from their parent(s), abandoned, or lost parents through a tragedy also. They are either placed in a temporary foster home or through adoption to a new family.

  8. A foster child has a family, probably a single parent.  The child is removed from their home because of some serious problem.  However, they hope to get the parents help so that they can put the family back together.  Foster homes are meant to be temporary, but sometimes they can become permanent if there is no chance to put the child back with their parents.
