  1. They don't take any action, that's the problem.

No action in Rwanda, the Congo, Liberia, Sierra Leone....  even in countries where there is a UN presence, they can take no action.

  2. The lack of action. Remember Ruwanda? They sent peace keepers to keep the peace but they were only allowed to intervene if they were in direct danger. Well basically that meant they get to watch while everyone around them got wasted.

  3. The worst action ever taken by the U.N. was the LACK of action in Rwanda in 1994. It got over 800,000 people butchered by machetes.

Although.. Had anyone actually gone in militarily, there would be a million anti-war protests going on in every major city.

  4. TO IRON WITH A PROCTOR SILEX UND NOT A BLACK N DECKER....THEY DUNT USE STARCH./.THEM CAHMBER MAIDS USED BLEACH UND PRESSED THEM NYLONS...ALL H BROKE LOOSE, I BLEW A FUSE, MINE ORLONS GOT SCORTCHED N THE HOME WAS IN SHOCK FROM THE FAULTY WIRIN IN TAHT HOME..I NEED THE ADVICE OF A SPINSTER SEAMSTTRESS FROM TEH ISLAND OF ISLES/  THENX..I NEED MINE THORAZINE,.,,DOKTA...GETB MIN EK

  5. its their lack of action that bothers me...they wait until the situation is so bad that it cant be saved (darfur for example) and if they ever they send out troops on some "peace keeping mission" they never send enough to make a difference. they are a useless organization if u ask me. they dont have the authority to make a difference anyways...

  6. The other posters are criticizing the UN Security Council, the only UN body that has any power. That's fine, but remember that the UN Security Council is NOT the UN. The UN is made up of several different platforms and agencies. The UN Security Council doesn't necessarily represent the views and work of, say, UNICEF, or WFP, or UNDP, or UNESCO, or any even the General Assembly.

If you want to debate the UN Security Council actions then, great, I'll pile on: the worst action ever taken by the Council is inaction in the face of gross human rights violations, Rwanda being a leading example.

  7. The Congo crisis in the early 60s.  Many UN troops watched while the factions butchered each other.

Another example is in Cambodia.  UN troops were responsible for infecting thousands of Cambodians with AIDS in the late 80s and early 90s.  I believe this is the only case where an AIDS epidemic started in rural areas.

  8. Failing to back up the US on the Iraqi situation.  Had the UN members in question not taken hundreds of millions of dollars in bribes from Iraq, they presumably would have done so.  But if the cops take bribes, they're worthless.

  9. they don't actually have much power, the notion that they don't action is partly attributed to fact that most powerful countries would rather invest in there own policies then a global one especially a non capitalistic one

  10. Allowing a leading n**i in Hitler's Third Reich (Kurt Waldheim) to have the top job in the UN.

  11. The UN made more bad actions than good ones. One of the worst was when U Thant pulled out the UN peace keepers in 1967 and paved the way for Nasser to attack Israel. The other bad UN action was when Kofi pushed for UNSC 1701 after the Second Lebanon War, without disarming the terrorists and bringing home the Israeli hostages.

  12. Tolerance of the US invasions of other countries.
