  1. The pressure gradient-This is the force that acts at right angles to isobars in the direction from high to low pressure. The greater the pressure difference over a given horizontal distance, the greater the force and hence the stronger the wind

Friction-As winds pass over the surface, they encounter surface irregularities (hills, mountains, etc.) and slow down due to friction. The decrease in wind speed means that the Coriolis effect acting on the winds also decreases. Since the pressure gradient force remains constant, the wind direction is driven more strongly toward the lower air pressure, often resulting in gusts.

The above are the most prominent but there are others.

  2. Pressure differences. The closer the isobars the steeper the gradient so the winds will blow faster. It is like water flowing down a steep hill compared with a gradual slope. The next factor is when the wind is backing in direction, This relates to change of speed due to rotation of direction.

You could include temperature differences. The greater the difference in temperature between two locations of the same distance apart  generally the greater the wind speed differences.
