  1. The Marlin 60 and Ruger 10/22 are both under $200 and very nice rifles. It really depends on, do you want a detachable magazine or tube.

    Pistol - Ruger MK II

  2. You can spend more... but Mossberg is a great .22 at a great price!

They start around $120. Depends on the model. All less than $155 or so. Made in Brazil. Used to be as cheap as $100 at Wal-Mart and $90 last Christmas at d**k's or Gander Mtn. Since then, like everything else, the prices have gone up.

In my area, you'd be hard pressed to find a Marlin 60 for less than $145. A clip-fed Marlin 795 for about $135 Remington 597's for about $145, the Savage 64F for about $125 or a Savage/Stevens 300 for $135.

  3. If you can find a marlin rifle, they are usually cheap..not sure who carries them, now..

  4. 10/22, marlin 60, remongton 597 with a little work.

  5. For a 22 rifle I would recommend a ruger 10/22 It is a really nice semi auto that uses a detachable clip. It has a shorter barrel which cuts down on weight and is nice for hunting small game, but yet is really accurate for hunting paper targets and beer cans.

For a 22 pistol I would recommend a browning buckmark. It is fun to shoot, accurate, easy to clean, and simple to operate.

  6. Ruger 10/22 : New $275, Used $100 - $175

    Remington 587 : New $180, Used $125 - $150

Both are good target shooting rifles

  7. Winchester makes a good 1. bolt actions are the most accurate but the ruger 10/22 are really fun but slightly less acurate  but a few weeks ago i killed a coyote with my 10/22

  8. Rifle or pistol

    Rifle

    Remington 597

I just picked on up used in new condition for $120

Marlin Model 60 Pawn shops sell them for around $75 all day long

They are both very good very respected rifles at cheap prices

    Pistol

    Ruger Mark whatever

There is one fore sell on our state forum for $165

I have always owned one or two since 1980 I think I have had about 5 so far

Great little gun but you may have to pay up to $200 for used

    Revolver

    Heritage Rough Rider

Single action new they are about $170

A friend bought one recently and it is a well built and accurate gun

It is not as good a gun as my $300 Ruger Single Six but the Ruger is not$130 better than the Rough Rider

  9. Today it is really east to build a good .22 cal for little cost, so just about all the answers you recieved before me are good.

I saw that no one has suggested an H&R 1871 rifle. These are single shot break open rifles. You can get a great shooter for under 200 in .22lr or 22 mag. At a later date, you can have the gun rebarreled to shoot .177 for about 100 dollars.

For an auto, its tough to beat a Ruger 10/22. They rock in the most basic model.

For a lever, I own a Marlin, and 2 Henry's; I prefer the Henrys. They are fast handling accurate compact guns. I must say the Marlin is just as good, but is much heavier with a longer barrel.

    Good luck.

  10. Rifle or pistol?

  11. well im glad one person mentioned the marlin 60. great gun

  12. Check the CMP or DCM civilian marksmanship sites

Last  time I looked, they had very nice new & used target rifles

  13. You can't beat Marlin for cost and precision. In addition they have some of the best looking stocks. You can get a semi-auto 22 LR for less than $120 or a bolt-action for about the same. The bolt has a detachable magazine and the auto-loader has a tube-feed.

No doubt about it... they are some of the best and best-looking for the price. I have a .22 LR, .17 HMR, and .30-.30 in Marlin and I can definitely say they are excllent weapons.

I've run at least 3,000 rounds of .22 LR through my favorite squirrel and target Marlin and never had a problem. As far as accuracy, well... I put ten bullets in the same 1/8 inch target at 50 yards rapid-firing this weekend and got similar results with the bolt-action .17 HMR.

  14. I have a Charles Daly that they have "discontinued" when in all actuality it is manufactured under the name of Remington now. It is known as the model 5.

  15. Ruger 10/22 all the way!!!

Extremely reliable rifle, rarely jams and looks pretty nice for the price. Buy at any Wal-Mart. US$185,00

Please, keep distance from Remingtons... They are worthless.

  16. a savage mark 2 or mark 3 bolt action rifle from wal mart for about 130 dollars great gun very accurate and dependable o an really cheap

  17. If you want cheap then a single shot is what you are looking for, Marlin makes a nice one.

    Or you might consider used.
