  1. Are the child's fundamental needs being addressed?

Is the child coming to school hungry, or without adequate care in the home?

Is the learning environment inappropriate for this child to learn? Is the child bored? How does he/she learn best? Is he/she being challenged enough? Or does he/she need further supports? Does he or she get more rewards by acting out (ie. time out, which may be actually what he/she wants) than by behaving appropriately?

Is there peer pressure on the child to act out? Does he/she feel rewarded by peers for the behavior? Consider the child's friendships and whether other children in the classroom are influencing behavior.

    3) The context-where are they, what time is it, who's around, are you observing from distance or alongside them .do they know they are being watched or not?
