  1. basket ball

  2. Football gets better ratings.

  3. "Nation building"

  4. baseball

  5. I think football is America's national sport.  Most people go out of their way to watch NFL football on Sunday and the NFL is not as provincial as other sports (meaning that a lot of people root for a team that is not local).  It is uniquely American and other than the CFL, no other country really plays football.  Also, College football is a religion in some parts of the country (especially the Southeast).  I think the betting aspect of NFL football contributes to its wide popularity.  Plus, it's the best TV sport out there.

Baseball is more popular in Japan and Latin America now than the US.  It has suffered a significant decline in popularity in the last 25 years.

NBA Basketball is a turn-off for many Americans.  College basketball is popular, but most people only care about March Madness.

  6. I think American Football has taken over.  The revenue is sickening

  7. it all depends on the person, i like basketball the best then football then baseball, so i would say that basketball is America's national sport, but who knows...

  8. suppose to be baseball but the other two are close behind

  9. The United States would be baseball, then football. America is 2 continents, the US is a nation.

America goes from the North Pole to just about the South Pole so it would probably be soccer.

Geography is a neat thing to understand when you are asking a question.

  10. ITS FOOTBALL! why do you commies think its your sissie sport baseball?!

  11. I think the national spectator sport would be football at both the NCAA and NFL levels

The nation's participatory sport would be basketball becaue it only takes a couple of players, a basketball, and a basket.  All of these things can be found in any neighborhood.

  12. Football, baseball, basketball...

    All of the above

  13. I would say It would have to be baseball.

  14. football because you won't see it in many places. that's why football, in the categories list, has american in parentheses

  15. Baseball is part of the culture and fabric of the American way of life.

When the baseball season is disrupted by labor disharmony, people get angry and feel robbed of part of their lives. When football has a strike, they just use 2nd rate players and the games continue as is.

When baseball is rocked by a drugs scandal, everyone from the President down is affected. When a footballer gets caught taking steroids, they get a slap on the wrist and forgotten about in 5 minutes.

Baseball is played virtually every day of the week from April until October  when the weather is at its best, yet many teams draw near capacity crowds to virtually every game.

  16. The national sport used to be baseball by a wide margin; however, current ratings/fan popularity polling has revealed football to be the clear cut top sport in the US.  This isn't even limited to the NFL as college football is in the top 3 in popularity.

  17. Football, hands down.

  18. dido on baseball

  19. I would say between football and basketball.....football there isnt anything like thatoverseas

  20. In terms of popularity: football

In terms of impact to American culture: baseball
