What's It Like Being on a Cruise?

Does the ship sway much? What kinds of sounds do you hear at sea (not counting sounds of music and goings-on). What's it like not seeing land in any direction?

Cruise ships are so big now and they are all fitted with stabilisers that even if the weather gets a bit rough you hardly notice anything other than a slight movement.

The noises you hear at sea depend a lot on where your cabin is situated. The best place is usually at or near to the centre of the ship, with cabins above and below you. This ensures that, you feel very little movement, you don't hear any of the noise of the crew getting the decks cleaned for the next day, and you are a good distance from the propellers and bow and stern thrusters.

On a cruise, you now only get one or maybe two full days at sea, the ships usually do most of the travelling at night and there is so much to do on board that it is not noticeable that you are not near land.

Standing at the front or back of the ship and just seeing the ocean all around is brilliant, especially at night when you can see all the stars and other ships in the distance.

Unless the weather is terrible  you hardly notice the ship moving at all. I have been on 6 and only one was bad enough to take anything for sea sickness.

There is very little noise other than the motor humming sounds, and the people. At night on deck it is amazingly quiet, and dark.

You are usually so busy when on the boat you don't notice nothing around you. I like the way it feels. i think it makes things seem large rather than claustrophobic.

I love cruising and cant wait to go on my 7th is 92 day.

I went on a Carribean Cruise and it was one of the most fascinating things I have ever experienced. Yes the ship does sway but once you're on there for a little while you get use to it. It doesn't sway so much to where you'd fall off though. You mostly hear waves, birds, whales, and dolphins. When I went there were around 7 or 8 dolphins that followed us for like 2 days. It was so awesome. It was kind of weird not seeing any land but its was so beautiful that I really didn't care.

a cruise is a good time i went from mexico to florida and it was great. you do not sway the ship is stable there is so much to do you will not think of land. just eat a lot and go to the shows and you will have fun

It's great. Pick one that sounds good. Buy a bunch of Dramamine(in case you get seasick) and GO!!!!! The worse the weather, the more the ship sways.
