  1. I've never been hit flush in the head or knocked out cold in a fight, but I imagine it would feel the same as the time I ran into a pole. I don't remember much about it, except that I saw the d**n thing at the last second and then I woke up ten minutes later (according to my cousins) with a nasty headache. The only knockout I've suffered technically was from a bodyshot.

  2. it hurts... duh

  3. I got hit a few times while boxing with friends in high school.  Because several of the guys wore braces, we weren’t supposed to throw head punches, but “mistakes” do happen.  My only recollection is just being on the floor (it was grass).  I don’t remember getting hit or falling, and it didn’t hurt.  I was just there.  It was like a momentary blackout.

I'm not suggesting that you can "learn" to take a punch and will improve that "skill" by practicing taking head shots, but I think a lot of inexperienced boxers go down just because they are not mentally prepared to take a punch.  I think that was the case with me.

  4. Many times getting hit on the button (or any knockout for that matter), you don't necessarily feel anything _and_ you don't realize that you were hit at all. This is due to:

    1. The hit you don't see knocking you out

    2. Short-term memory loss from the concussion

    Mostly #2. It's likely that it's all #2 though.

So, the actual hit doesn't hurt, but as other posters noted, waking up the next morning is worse.

Nearly as bad is when you take a stiff shot to the button but don't necessarily go out - you can feel your neck snap around and "feel" (or at least vividly imagine) your brain pounding around.

Makes me cringe just thinking about it.

    Chin down, hands up!

  5. I remember getting KNOCKED OUT COLD!!! In a amateur bout against Winston Bent who went on to fight Mike Tyson in the finals of the NYS Championships I felt nothing, just some tingling after wards but when I fought in some Tough-man contest when I got older I got hit square on the button and it felt like I was a full charge battery losing all it's power(a draining feeling), it is a weird feeling needless to say I didn't get knockout. Being knocked out by someone who fought Mike Tyson is not all that bad either : )

  6. The phrase 'lights out' sums it up.  I took a good l**k with no head gear on.  It didn't hurt much at the time but I was knocked goofy for a good ten minutes.  I kept looking up, and not sure why.  I did get the tingling sensation the guy above talked about, and also, my ears felt really really weird.  They felt red, if that makes sense.

The next day, there was no mistaking I had been hit.  To me, that was worse than the day I got hit.

  7. Strangely enough you don't feel the punch, you hear it though, which is actually worse, because part of your mind knows you should feel getting hit, and you wonder why it didn't hurt.  I been pretty lucky, I haven't been hit clean very often, and almost never on the point of the chin.  Last time was 1971 and I remember it like it was yesterday, so believe me if you do get tagged on the button, you learn real quick not to let it happen again.  If you don't keep your hands up, you had best tuck you chin behind your shoulder, believe me it's best to keep wondering, I hope you never find out what it feels like, it ain't fun, thats for sure.

  8. I always tell people the last thing you want to hear is "d**n dude you can take a shot"

I got hit with a mayweather style check hook walking in just like hatton, and it stopped me dead in my tracks  a few years back in sparring, and that was no doubt the hardest shot I have and will ever take in my life.

I was the bigger guy (i felt) so I had no respect, walked in, got clocked, darn near died...lol

.... it was like someone put me on pause. mind and body stopped working, I dipped for a split second (legs went) ....I was like good lord why am I doing this.
