I am due to go on a housing list and there are options to live in Kirkby and I wondered what the area was like as I am not from the area. You can live in Northwood or Tower Hill, how do these two area vary?

Any help appreciated before I submit the forum.

Thanks

  1. All of Kirkby is the pits...seriously...my aunt lived in Northwood...it was awful.

  2. A bit rough, maybe, but nowhere near as bad as it's been painted. In the early Nineties one of the newspapers referred to Kirkby as like a "mini Beirut" but it's nothing like that now.  As another poster has suggested, take a tour of the areas you've been offered to help you make up your mind.

You could also phone up one of the phone-in programmes on local radio to gauge public opinion!  Roger Phillips on Radio Merseyside has a daily phone-in show  from noon - 2pm(0151 709 9333) - just call the show and tell them what you've told us - people will soon phone up to pass their opinions on!

Good luck with your decision and the move!

  3. All areas of kirkby have its ups and downs , tower hill and the top end of northwood (past ruffwood school and kennel wood) are meant to be the bad areas , Ive lived in kirkby all my life (Burnard crescent) just by the molly pub (and thay say that is  a bad pub ) and have never once had a problem living there ,no offense but your getting a free house if you don't like it you can always put in for a transfer , but as i say Ive lived her 30 yrs and love it .good luck .

  4. A bit rough

  5. Kirkby is like every other place in U.K. it has good and bad from my experience it has all been good, take a tour of the two areas you have been offered ,have a look at the shopping center in the Town Center I think you will be pleasantly surprised good luck

  6. I don't believe its too bad, it has inproved a lot compared to what it was.

Don't let previous reputations put you off living there.
