What NASCAR driver crashed his car out of Talladeega Speedway and it went down an embankment outside of the speedway and there was nothing left of the car but its skeleton, there was no sheet metal left. What race was this in and do you have any pics or videos of the car or the crash. I think it was in 1993.

  1. 1993 DieHard 500 at Talladega, Stanley Smith nearly died from a basilar skull fracture in a massive crash -- The crash is better known for fellow competitor Jimmy Horton flipping over the wall and rolling down the embankment outside the track.

  2. In the 1993 Die Hard 500, On lap 70, The Big One just took place at Talladega. Stanley Smith and Jimmy Horton gets together goes up the race track then Horton's car goes over the wall...

Way too many dangerous wrecks in that race.

  3. I think the driver was Jimmy Horton. It was the die gard 500.It was a site.

  4. I agree with some of the other answers...that particular race (I still have on my "Kodak VHS Gold" tape) had way too many dangerous crashes. I remember that particular crash with Stanley Smith and Jimmy Horton, Smith was driving #49 Ameritron batteries Chevrolet Horton was driving #32 Active Trucking Chevrolet if memory serves me. Very scary crash...Horton still raced after that but I don't recall if Smith ever raced again. Does anyone remember????

Edit: After reviewing it on youtube I had Smith's sponsor incorrect.

  5. I tkinl it was david pearson and it was earlier than 1993
