  1. Actually, Canada has 8 provinces or something, and 3 territories. I am not sure about South Africa. Provinces are similar to states, and territories are more self-supporting.

  2. There really isnt any difference between a state and a province.

Canada has 10 provinces and 2 territories.

The United States has 50 states, and more than a few territories and other different things.

Consider this.... We refer to Mexico's political regions as provinces.  But Mexico refers to them as "estados" (states).  In fact, if you look at a map written in Spanish, the USA is labeled "estados unidos de america" (United States of America)... but Mexico is often times labeled "estados unidos de mexico" (United States of Mexico)

A territory is owned by the nation.  Generally speaking, territories are not autonomous... they are usually underdeveloped.  Although, people can survive there independently.

Have you noticed that States often refer to the government of an independent nation?  The State of Rome, etcetera.  Canada is a State, if you think about it like that

Provinces, like in the case of Canada's provinces, typically come about when the government decide on segregating regions of more and more self-governing and autonomy.  Sort of like the States of the USA, except that the USAs states are different.

In the case of States, each state of the USA used to be an independently governing State (government, nation)... which have chosen to ally themselves under a single federal union.

  3. www.google.com

    Type in Province

    Good luck

  4. Canada actually has 10 provinces and 3 territories.

There are provinces in Argentina, Ireland, Chile, the Philippines, China and many other countries around the world.

Provinces are slightly more independent from federal government than are states in their ability to create legislation.

  5. first, there are more than 2 provinces--Canada alone has 10.

South Africa has 4. China and Vietnam also are divided into provinces.

The main difference between a state and a province is their names. They are "first-level" administrative divisions of a country. That is, they are the governmental unit/divisions just below that of the national government.
