Question:

What's The Difference between the two Jack Daniels Labels?

I have just recently turned 21 and like Jack Daniels. I went to the store the other day to get some, and saw two. One with a black label and one with a green label. The green label was 4 or so dollars cheaper. I compared the bottles and from what I saw there was no difference. Alcohol level is the same, Proof is the same. Does anyone know the difference?

  1. There are 5. It all has to do with age (amount of time spent in the barrel) and if its blended or not.

Old No. 7 - A blended whiskey. Several barrels are blended to create a consistent flavor.

Single Barrel - One barrel. No blending. Also known as a straight whiskey.

Gentleman Jack - A medium bodied premium whiskey.

1981 Gold Medal Series - Another premium 17 year old whiskey (most are aged 3 to 12 years)

    EDIT:

Sorry, I got caught up in the other kinds and forgot to actually answer your question. Difference between green and black is age.

  2. The folks at Jack Daniels would tell you this-

    Black Label: Aged 7 years

    Green Label: Aged 5 years

But Mayor Adam West is correct: the green label is inferior to the black label but many people can't taste the difference.
