Question:

What's The Most Diverse, Developed Part Of Houston?

I've been to Houston, and I must say that I wasn't impressed. Actually, I was in Cypress, TX, so maybe that's why. I live in L.A. so I already knew it would be slower, but in Cypress, it seemed so dead to me.

Can you give me some middle-class, racially diverse parts of Houston that are very developed, and that have public transportation. I like living on a bus line in case my car breaks down and I don't have to depend on anyone to take me anywhere.

I might consider moving there, since I have family out there, but it d**n sure won't be Cypress.

  1. Downtown is being redeveloped and is becoming a pretty nice place to live.  Cypress is out in the 'burbs so it's not really representative of Houston overall.

Good luck with the public transportation part.  Like most cities in Texas, that isn't particularly stressed.  Most people have cars and wouldn't be caught dead on the bus.

Depending on what you want to do, Houston can be a great place to live and raise a family.  That being said, I don't really like it.  I grew up in DFW and now live in Austin and I prefer both areas to Houston.  Houston is too spread out and too hot for my tastes.

  2. Yeah DT & Uptown areas have more culture & diversity & stuff. Cypress sucks lol. It's a HICK town!

Try getting a cell phone too. If your car breaks down in the hood you could be in BIG trouble!

go to www.ridemetro.org. for bus routes & schedules. Good Luck,.

  3. Cypress is divided into two different areas. Either upper middle class and white, or middle class and white. The former is on the south side of 290 and the other is on the northern side.

Depending on your definition of diverse, you might try areas of Spring Branch, near downtown, or the Heights.

As for public transportation in Houston, you have a number of options, but the one realistic one is: get a car.

Oh, and don't knock Cypress. I'd rather have "safe" than "diverse" any day.
