What's The Speed Of A Canoe?

Question

I want to paddle to work along a bay. I live 12km (8 miles) from my office. Both destinations have marinas. I'm just an average guy who works in an office though. How long do you reckon it would take to travel either way, and is it realistic to expect I could pull this off daily in both directions?

Currents/tides/sea conditions are very variable.  This is considered a good workout distance for some in good physical condition.  I would expect it would take about 2 hours to paddle eight miles depending on conditions.
