I Have One Of the The Little Silver Receivers And It Has As A Usb Port, Why And Can I Use It As An Alternative AV Source

  1. that's a negative.

    The USB on your Direct TV is usually for:

    a) servicing the box of it's firmware and/or operating system

    b) retrieving stored tv programs if you have a built in DVR into your DirectTV receiver.


  2. You can connect an external hard drive, which can be used to store additional programs recorded by the DVR.  You'll probably have to call Direct TV to activate this feature.

  3. actually, there's very little that USB port can do right now. DirecTV is working on functions for the port, but at this time the only thing I've heard it used for is charging an Ipod.
