  1. High Definition is a video *standard*; Blu-ray is a High definition *source*.

    High definition (HD) is the term for the highest level of video resolution available today. HD is different than traditional definition, which is what you can expect from an old television.

    Blu-Ray is a source media which can provide High definition. Blu-Ray discs have lots more video information, allowing them to provide a better image on a television (only an HDTV television can play back the signal in HD quality). Similarly, VHS tapes provide standard definition.

    To put things into perspective: All Blu-ray is High Def, but not all High Def is Blu-ray. I hope this helps!
