Question:

What's Wrong With My Dog?????

My dog is emaciated (not severely, but very skinny), and he won't eat. About a couple of months ago, we stopped giving him human food because the vet said we shouldn't, and we switched to Purina dog food. He refused to eat it for a while but eventually gave in because that was what was there.

I went for vacation for two months and the first day I got back he was very happy, but he had diarrhea from his dog food.

The second day, my aunt and mother (who are horrible neat freaks) kept him in the kitchen so he wouldn't poo all over the house. He went out for a couple walks during the day, but not with ,e.

The third day, he was depressed and stayed in his bed. It took coaxing to get him to move, and we went for a walk. He walked behind me, and everytme I stopped walking to encourage him to go ahead and explore, he stopped too. When we got back to the house I tried to give him some dog food, but he refused. Then I cooked a little meat pasta (which he used to LOVE) and he refused to eat it too. I tried to get him to drink water, but he didn't want it. I looked for the moist dog food and realized it hadn't been opened, which oviously meant he'd been eating kibble for two months and not drinking very much (he's a very fussy dog and you have to encourage him to drink/eat by giving him a little with your hand, first). I poured some water ina cup and held it for him while he drank, tried to give the food again, he wouldn't take it. Tried the water in a bowl, and he drank a lot, and then I tried the food again but he still wouldn't take him. I opened the terrace door and right now he's napping there, but I'm afraid what's wrong with him.

  1. Some dogs can get themselves into a cycle where they won't eat because they feel sick, but they're feeling sick because they aren't eating. I suggest getting him to the vets ASAP for treatment. He may just need to be on a drip and have some anti-nausea medicine to get him eating again or he may have something more serious wrong. Either way I think you need the help of a vet to get him healthy again.

  2. I think you should take him to the vet. There's probaly something wrong. Whenever I eat something really dry, I always want to drink water after. Anyway, I babysitted for a dog and he always drank a ton of water.

  3. oh, gosh, take him to the vet and order a CBC. CBCs can tell a lot about what is and isn't wrong (it checks kidney, liver, WBC, RBC, etc.) If he won't drink voluntarily, to keep him hydrated get and oral syringe and "force feed" him water or take him to a vet for an IV. If he has diarrhea, he's losing electrolytes and if he loses too many then he could have heart problems and die.

  4. Get him checked out by a vet.

    and change his dog food.

    Purina Is HORRIBLE.

It's full of corn and fillers.

It has no nutritional value whatsoever.

It contains inadequant meat content, animal byproduts, low quality grain and meat products, fat of unidentifiable origin, aftificial color, and sugar.

It would be like you eating bubble gum the rest of your life.

It is actually rated one of the worst dog foods around.

Avoid: Pedigree, Beneful, Alpo, Ol Roy, Kibbles N Bits, Bil-Jac,

Mighty Dog, Purina (including ProPlan),Ceser, Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, Royal Canin, Eagle Pack (not to be confused with Eagle Pack Holistic)

and of course all grocery store brands of dog food!

Here is a list of dog foods that are high in quality and meat content:

    Canidae All Life Stages

    Merrick

    Taste Of The Wild

    Solid Gold

    Blue Buffalo

    Wellness

    California Natural

    Artemis

    Nature's Variety

Chicken Soup For The Puppy Lover's Soul

    ZiwiPeak

    Fromm

    Timberwolf Organics

  5. i would take him to the vet. if he hasn't ate much, he could be very sick. this happened my friend's dog. turns out he had liver disease. please take your dog to the vet. it could be serious

  6. you may should try to change the food style ,i mean put some hot water in dog food and make them softener and chop up the food also .

but give to him when that food is warm but not HOT,plus the water cant be so many to mix the food !!!!

    that may work...

i hope your dog will eat......(^_<)   try it and let me know thank you!!!
