I've been invited to a Chilean wedding in three weeks. I was wondering what a Chilean wedding is like...what formal and informal practices are there?

I am Chinese/French living in Toronto if this helps.

  1. In Chile the practices formal and informal are not very different from those from Canada.

  2. How well do you know these people?  Are they Catholic? Then, they'll have a Catholic wedding.  Are they Jewish? then, they'll. . .Are they Rasta? then, they'll. . Are they agnostic?  Why don't you phone and ask them and ask if you can bring anything, maybe a couple of bottles of Chilean wine?  I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.

  3. Generaly the wedding starts at the church and everyone is dressed up so bring your winter suit, either 2 pieces or three (I can get cold in church). Latter everyone joins at the reception wherever  they are having it, maybe someones house, a restaurant or a rented house and the party will last until the newlyweds leave.

Drink and dance till you die! . . . . .  Maybe you'll meet your true love!

  4. hahah most of the popular ones are quite traditional (assuming that they are catholics or Christians) the ceremony is very tradional .. people are expected to dress up.

As far as the reception goes its quite common.  Although its not really a sit down dinner like (not all the time) they can have it as a BBQ type but mostly the WINE and Drinks.. excpect a lot of dancing and its quite fun!
