  1. I am a Christian, so I will give you MY perspectives, which are a bit more liberal than a lot of Christians.

    1. Homosexuality: a sin according to the Bible, but to me, no worse than anything else people do. I personally could care less who people want to have s*x with.

    2. Feminism: Again, my personal view is that feminism is a good thing. A lot of Christians think it's wrong, and that a woman's duty is to serve her husband and children. I'm pretty much a feminist except I'm not pro-abortion.

  2. Let me put it this way, Christians will take everything they deem suitable for their personal ethics from the bible and amplify the volume.

They tend to leave out all the nastiness of the old testament and rarely have a problem with shellfish or wearing a cotton/polyester blend; which is deemed an abomination in the Lords eyes. Fundamentalists selectively quote the Bible to fulfill their own needs, fuel their own hate and make it all ok in their minds by saying: Well it's the word of "God."

It's all there in the book of Leviticus, although many only quote the parts that they personally find desirable; it is just a pre-existing prejudice, not faith.

  3. Biblically, homosexuality is condemned.

Feminism ideally is all about equality.  And that is completely biblical.  Equality doesn't mean identical.  It means equal in value.  The genders clearly have different skills, abilities, tendencies, biology, chemistry, emotions, and therefore roles.  But we are still equal in God's eyes and should be equal in our eyes as well.

Feminism as it stands these days is in reality a backlash against misogynism throughout the centuries.  Many Christians did historically believe that women were subject men.  But this was largely due to the belief that a woman was responsible for the fall of man.  I don't think that people historically considered the truth of what happened in the Garden of Eden.  You know who committed the first sin?  Adam.  He watched the serpent seduce Eve with the fruit and he just stood there and let her take the fall all by herself. Adam abandoned his wife.  And that means that man too was responsible for the fall of man.  He wasn't the only one responsible.  Both were equally responsible.

When God told Eve that she would desire her husband and be subjected to him, he meant that she would feel insecure as a result of him abandoning her when she needed him most, and because of her insecurity she would feel as if she needed him.

However, due to many differences evident in the genders, it's clear that men are often better at making long term logical decisions without allowing emotions to get in the way.

  4. Bad, and bad news.

Now granted some of the more progressive sects are open to homosexuality, however, going by the bible, Christianity and homosexuality are pretty incompatible. E.g. the story of Sodom and Gomorrah.

  5. hate it

    and

    hate it

  6. Uh, I was a Christian so I can answer this...although I am liberated from religious labels (I still believe in God.)

As many people will tell you, homosexuality is a sin when it comes to Christianity (Many other religions forbid homosexuality as well).  I'll never engage in it, I'll never encourage it, I'll never be a part of it and I'll never support it, as I don't care for homosexuality, personally.  But like Meagan, I don't really care what people do.  Everyone has the free will to do whatever they want to do.  Of course, however, there are homosexual Christians.

And on feminism...actually there are many feminists who ARE religious...if you didn't realize it yet.   To have a woman lead a church is against the rules of the Bible...so is having s*x on a period, etc etc.  But I don't think Christians have a problem with feminism actually.  Peace and harmony is something to be sought for all persons.  However, Christians may not TOTALLY believe in the full course of feminism, which include last name changes, household roles, the ability to have a child or children, etc.

To be honest, I don't think that Christians nor many other MODERATE religious persons care what people do with their lives as it is their problems.  It's just that many feel that people will be judged by God or be affected by karma or born again, etc, etc.  It all depends on the religion.

As for the Extremists in these religions...well..They will also be judged, yeah? :).

  7. It depends on the Christian. Some more conservative denominations frown on both feminism and homosexuality while more progressive ones either tolerate both or accept them.

  8. Homosexuality is a sin, but I see no reason to hate or dislike a homosexual person.

Feminism- I believe in equality, but I believe the radicals place their own warped agenda at the decrement of of society and the family.

  9. Pretty much the exact opposite of mine.

Traditional Christians are quite anti-feminism- women belong in the home and are to do their husband's bidding regardless of her own wants and desires. Makes marriage sound rather unpalatable- no wonder there was a feminist revolution.

They're also convinced Jesus hates "the g**s" so it's a popular issue.

Christians seem to be entirely too absorbed in trying to make everyone do as they do, and they keep forcing their ideals on us. By all means, if you thikn homosexual marriage is an abomination, don't do it. If you think abortion is murder, don't have one. If you think women are designed to stay in the kitchen and breed, find yourself a subservient woman (or a dominating man.)

Just leave me and mine the h**l alone.

  10. I look at homosexuality from a legal perspective. Is there a victim? No, it should therefore not be a crime. However christians tackle it from a moral perspective and because its a sin according to the bible its immoral.

As for feminism the bible clearly states that man was created in the image of god and women from a part of man. At no point is equality between them proclaimed. In fact it is clearly stated that as punishment women must suffer childbirth and be under the dominion of her husband. I don't agree with that of course but that's the bibles take

  11. Depends on the Christian. I grew up with fundamentalist Christians and they frown on women being leaders in the church and frown on homosexuality, but they don't hate homosexuals, and allow women to be everything but the pastor. Moderate and liberal Christians are tolerate to loving and accept feminism and support striving for equality and allow women to be ministers; more now accept g**s and lesbians and some are struggling with allowing g**s and lesbians to be ministers in their churches as well. It's been an enlightening experience to watch some churches throw out any progress when it comes to women and g**s and lesbians, like the Southern Baptist, but also to see so many other faiths struggle valiantly to do what was moral and ethical in regards to women and homosexuals and homosexuality.
