  1. Teams like Penn state, UCLA, USC, are examples of D1 schools.

You can get a list by visiting NCAA.com and search for Volleyball d1

  2. While Dan has some of the info correct he has left out some other stuff.

D1 is the largest college's in the NCAA and usually they have the best programs. As Dan states how it is easier to get scholarships at D1 than D2 or D3 is absurd. D1 is the best of the best. They don't send out offers to 20 or 30 kids and hope to get 4. They have an extensive scouting program and they know what 4 or 6 kids they want in the country and out of the country. The kids themselves send video tape of game action to the school they want to go to. The big schools don't have to recruit since only the best are even considered possible additions. You have to remember that the roster is only 12 and they usually only graduate about 4 seniors a season. So they only have room for a couple of new scholarship athletes each season.

Several D2 and D3 schools do have full scholarships to offer players. While some schools don't have the revenue to offer full rides they can offer limited scholarships. That is another reason why they are left with the not so future Olympic stars. Unlike D1 they do send out interest letters to dozens of players. There is also the Junior college (NJCAA) level and the NAIA level. Both of these are normally below D1-D3 in talent but I have seen a few junior college champions that could give the D3 champion a good match.

    I hope that helps you...

  3. Volleyball at College level has three divisions (D1, D2, and D3), with D1 the best. Usually it is easier to get scholarship from D1 schools, as D2 and D3 schools would hardly offer any full scholarship.
