What's a LAN card? and what's it's function?

You probably mean a network card that interfaces the computer to the network.

Generally they can't be repaired - just replaced, unless they are integrated with the motherboard.

Local Area Network card.

It is necessary so you can connect to Broadband connections.

They are very inexpensive and are easily replaced, even if you have onboard LAN, just put a new card in one of your expansion slots and let it configure.

Make sure to go into your network connections in Control Panel and disable the bad one first.
