  1. A solar system is the collection of a star (sometimes more than one), a few planets if they exist, a few asteroids, comets, and so forth. That's a solar system. A solar system is like a house, and those who live there are its planets.

A galaxy is a huge collection of solar systems. Our galaxy, the Milky Way, has ~300 billion stars. A galaxy is like a city. The houses within are its stars.

The Universe is the collection of the quadrillions of galaxies. The Universe is like a country, and the cities within are its galaxies.

  2. Solar System - star and planets

    Galaxy - billions of stars

    Universe - billions of galaxies

  3. A solar system is a group of planets and their moons etc that orbit around one star.  For example our solar system (mercury, venus, earth, mars etc) all orbits around the sun.  A galaxy is a group of stars, all with their own solar systems.  And the universe is the whole lot!!  That's as far as it goes!

  4. Solar System-  Sun to Pluto  3.6 billion miles  (I still count Pluto in solar system.  :)   )

Sun to nearest star -- about 4 light years (9.5 trillion miles times 4)

Size of our Galaxy-- 100,000 light years across

Size of the Universe - MINIMUM size is  156 billion light years wide
