then you might be interested in the "land of  Xanth" series.

set in old times, romance, magic and very funny. (i cant say if it's like howl castle cuz i havent read it) but they are really fun books, i think there are 7 out now, but after the first two you dont have to read them in any order really.

i'll tell you a bit about the 1st book.

in the land of xanth every one has 1 magical power ( some very powerful, like controlling the weather. some stupid like making purple spots in the air!) if you dont get your power by a sirtin age you have to leave xanth and go ot Mundania (which is our world). so the hero "Bink" hasnt got'n his yet, so he goes to the most powerful magician in xanth, who knows the answer to everything "but for a price! you must work for him for 1 year" want to know the rest?, you read it!

Its a fairy tale for growups. there's lots of action and mystery to.

if you dont want to buy them, i'm sure you  will find them in the library. i did.
