What's a career for building computers and electronics for a living?

I not only want to know how they work and their fundamentals, but actually gaining a hands-on career out of building them.

  1. Go out on your own, around where i live, i know a few people who make a living..... not rich, but well enough off. by repairing fixing computers for people. don't charge too much and work fast, word of mouth will get you business.

Building computers and designing the hardware of computers would come under computer engineering.  You may want to a bachelor degree in computer engineering. it is a rewarding career. starting salary with bachelor in computer engineering is around $56,500 an year.  But if a person reaches phd in computer engineering, his starting salary then becomes over $92,000 an year.

  3. Not too great, you are competing with the low cost assemblers in China.

    There is a market for custom assembled PCs. I suspect that is declining as people switch to portables.
