  1. A  "corner tap" is a neighborhood bar.

  2. jcf685 knows what a corner tap is.

The definition of "corner" in the little dictionary I have in front of me states for the 3rd definition "a quiet secluded place".

the definition of Tap is: #2"liquor drawn through a tap. #3:"the removing of fluid from a container or cavity by tapping.

Sort of sounds like a Corner Tap is a quiet little place to have a drink.

  3. It's a pub, it was relative in some areas of Europe to have one not too far from home for locals to congregate.  This spread to the states, and as most of the neighborhoods have blocks.  It wasn't too uncommon to have   a place that could serve a beer off the tap within a block from home that was usually located on a corner as to have 8-way viewed traffic.  This is still seen in Chicago today, you can even go into some deep residential areas and your head turns just seeing it there in the midst of all the houses on non busy streets.
