  1. In my opinion it should be able to pay for the average mortgage/rent in the area where you plan to live the upcoming year.  In addition the salary should be able to pay for basic necessities (average utilities prices), groceries for the average family size you plan to support, then think about stuff like transportation cost to commute to work etc...

The key is to calculate the cost you will inquire on the upcoming year, don't forget to include inflation and taxes.  Divide that by how many hours you plan to work and you should arrive to a good approximation of how much pay you will required.

So you see it really depends on where you live, how big is your family, your particular life style and spending habits and any special circumstances you might have.

  2. For me, if it was a good job, relatively easy to do , I would expect at least a livable wage ..Minimum wage is not livable ..So somewhere on the lines of $15.00 an hour or more ,plus benefits ..

  3. if you are happy with the amount paid, it is fair, if not, don't take the job. try to compare with others and whine over the difference? there's no end to this...........

  4. Where I live the minimum wage is 8.00 an hour but the

government figures you need to make a minimum of 17.00 an hour to live at just break even status without owning a home so go figure that one.

  5. A fair salary. What a crock. When you take a job you decide whether the compensation is worth your time and knowledge. If its not, don't take the job. If it is, stop whinning and start paying taxes.

You people are unbelievable. You think it is the responsibility of your employer to make sure you make a livable (fair) wage?

What a joke. This sounds like communism. You people do not DESERVE c**p. No one has the RIGHT to a living/fair wage.

You act as if it is a RIGHT. Its not. A Right is something not given to you. It can't be taken away from you. Freedom of speech cannot be given to you by your employer. The Right to freedom of religion cannot be given to you by your employer.

There is no RIGHT to a wage. You are free in this country to not work at all. You are free in this country to no work and collect a wage that both YOU and your employer can agree on.

Yes - You and your employer agree on.

When you take a job, YOU have to determine if the compensation meets your requirements that you control. You see, your employer cannot control how much debt you have. HE cannot control how much money you spend or save and he cannot control whether you pay your bills or not. You employer cannot control your future plans and how much money YOU will need to meet them.

SO, it is YOUR responsibility to know whether you are taking a job that meets those financial obligations.

On top of that, it is also your responsibility to make sure YOU have the skills/knowledge to be marketable to make enough money to meet your obligations.

If you are only qualified to push a broom, them your chances of obtaining a job that meet your economic obligations/dreams is slim.

Stop whining about what is fair/livable and go get a freaking job.
