  6. Fogo de Chao! That is more of a guy's place though.

Also the Cheesecake Factory in the Galleria is really cool. They have awesome desserts.

Also, I forgot to add earlier: My two favorite restaurants in town are Ouisie's in River Oaks and The Olivette at the Houstonian. At Ouisie's my steak was impecably done, and I was really impressed with the quality of their more affordable wines. At the Olivette we went on a weekday, and since it was slow the chef added a complimentary course to our dinner. They really take care of people there. The food at both places is absolutely supreme.

Sam Buca downtown is an interesting spot. They play very entertaining jazz music. I used to play bass, and my old instructor (from the Houston symphony) used to play there on Sunday nights so we would always go down there, and leave full of things to talk about. If you like music, that's the place.

If you like Mexican, my vote would go toward Guadalajara Hacienda on I-10.

One last thing, my best friend is a member of River Oaks country club, and if you ever get a chance, ride someone's coat tails into that place. We used to eat on the back balcony that overlooks the course, and I didn't know we had scenery like that in Houston!

And then there's always the downtown aquarium but I was trying not to be cliche.

I didn't know what kind of budget you were on, but all those places run about $50/person, with the exception of the Cheescake Factory and Guadalajara, but are well worth it. They are quality, worthwhile alternatives to money pits like the Palm, Capital Grille, and Brenner's. I've been a lot of places in this country, and Houston is one of the absolute best when it comes to food. I went to New York and got my hopes up...and my parents went to northern California and were disappointed. There are plenty of amazing spots in that town. Enjoy it while you have it, I go to school in Alabama...they put a bunch of pork in a blender and put it on a hamburger bun and call it BBQ!
