What's a good, inexpensive reward system for middle school boys?

I will be teaching a class of four to six students. They are going to be in the sixth and the seventh grade, and it's one-hour class every Friday.

I know these boys and they're too old for stickers that don't mean anything. But I need them to do their essays (one is assigned for each week) and to participate. Any ideas?

  1. What about a CD single?

  2. Candy. Todays kids want easy, simple, quick satisfaction. Candy!!!

  3. Sadly, probably candy or gum. In middle school, I loved that. OR you could even buy some large chocolate bars.

You could also add up incentive time. Maybe if you had a wii or video game system at home, you could hook it up to your school t.v .and instead of going to "free time advisory" the kids could spend lunch in your room playing video games.

Another thing that works is play money. Pay them and them have them cash their funds in to buy piddly little things like candy etc...

  4. definetly jolly ranchers! or any other type of inexpensive candy

  5. i am in 8th grade..i don't know ....giving reward is ...like giving string to a cat  ...it just distracts people from the real world... i don't believe in reward ....sorry.....

  6. I hate to give you the age-old answer, but candy works very well.

When i was in middle school, all the kids went nuts over jolly ranchers and airheads.

When your stuck in a class you don't want to be in, a sweet treat can be all your looking for.

  7. They like electronics, mp3's games and stuff like that. Or gift cards
