I need a good DVD ripping program that will rip my DVD's onto my computer in one file. Is this possible?

I eventually want to put these onto an ipod when I get one.

I have tried dvd shrink, handbrake and some other but I just can't seem to get it.

I don't understand all the jargon so can someone try and explain to me in simple terms what i need to do?

Thanks!
